Obituary for Jerry Cooper Cox

10/25/1943 - 05/23/2024

Jerry Cox, age 80 of Andrews, NC passed away Thursday, May 23, 2024, at his home.

He was the son of the late Woodrow and Virginia Gregory Cox. Jerry worked with his parents as a Tom's Peanut Distributor for 27 years. He was taught many valuable lessons about entrepreneurship that he took with him throughout the rest of his life. Jerry had many successful business ventures, one of which was Creative Sportswear and Embroidery which he owned and operated for 39 years. His creativity and great artistic ability as a graphic designer led him to many corporate clients including Nasscar, to which he was a big fan. His favorite driver was Bill Elliott. Whether you were a corporate client, a small business or an individual Jerry took your design seriously and created the perfect product for your specific need. A BBQ venue called "Butts and More" and his last business venture "Custom Caps" were just two more of the many dreams turned to reality for Jerry. He was community minded and very much a people person. He enjoyed helping others become successful and accomplish their dreams. Jerry was a member of the Andrews Chamber of Commerce, and he was responsible for the first car show in Andrews. He sat at the helm of its success for 18 years. Jerry loved life and was an icon of the community. All who knew him loved him and he will be missed for years to come.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Suzy Cole Cox; two stepdaughters, Shylon Curtis White and Daratha Curtis; and his brother Tony Cox.

He was survived by one stepson Brian Curtis and wife Sandy; three grandchildren, Cody Austin White, Shasta Martin and husband Jamie and Dylan Curtis and wife Lauren; four great-grandchildren, Addilyn Curtis and Amber, Austin, and Andrew Martin. He was also survived by his significant other and best friend of 14 years, Linda Griffith.
