Obituary for William Ashe

William Harley Ashe, age 90 passed away Monday, May 27, 2024 at the Clay County Care Center in Hayesville, NC.

He was a native and lifelong resident of Clay County and the son of the late William Harrison and Flora Kitchens Ashe. He was an avid outdoorsman and had a very keen sense of direction. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, hiking and hunting ginseng. William had a great work ethic and in the 30 plus years he was employed at Levi Stauss and Company he never missed one day of work. He loved his church family at Old Shooting Creek Baptist Church where he was a member. William loved his family and was a great husband, dad, brother and grandfather.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Otis, Oren, Frank and Winford Ashe and five sisters, Pauline Cassada, Dorthy Anderson, Odene Robinson, Mattie Mosteller and Nettie Shuler.

He is survived by his wife, Essie Barrett Ashe; two sons, Nathan Ashe and wife Paula and Chris Ashe; two grandchildren, Jared Ashe and Analicia McGaw and two great-grandsons, Nate and William McGaw.

Funeral Services will be held at 1 PM, Thursday, May 30, 2024 at Old Shooting Creek Baptist Church where he will lie in state one hour prior to the service hour. Pastor Darryl Rose will officiate. Music will be provided by the Shooting Creek Baptist Church Choir. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.Pallbearers will be Jared Ashe,Gary Ashe,Craig Shook,Ricky Maney,Charles Parker, and Ronnie Hogsed.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM, Wednesday, May 29, 2024 at the Townson-Rose Funeral Home Chapel of Hayesville.
