Obituary for Patricia Schaaf

Patricia Schaaf, 88, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on June 4, 2024.

As a Registered Nurse for over 50 years, Patricia devoted her life to caring for others. She led nursing teams in operating rooms and emergency departments, and later worked as a home health nurse in Florida and North Carolina. Patricia was a charter member of the Clay County Community Revitalization Committee and served as the first chair of the CCCRA Appearance Committee. She also served on the Hayesville Planning & Zoning Board under four mayors, was active in the St. Vincent de Paul Society, and attended Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church. One of her most important positions was Denmother of her son’s Cub Scout Pack in Naples, Florida. Throughout her life, Patricia enjoyed hosting dinners and parties for friends and family, painting, picnicking, and spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Daniel Fitzpatrick and Albertine Rogalle Fitzpatrick; and sister, Jean Fitzpatrick. She is survived by her husband of more than 50 years, George Nicholas Schaaf of Hayesville; sons Stephen Daniel McKenna, of Centre, Alabama, and George Victor Schaaf of Juneau, Alaska; grandchildren Eva McKenna, Mary Ngwenya, and Jack Schaaf; and great-grandchildren Gabriel Ngwenya, Josephine Ngwenya, and Evelyn Ngwenya.

A celebration of life and memorial Mass will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family would be grateful for donations to the Clay County Food Pantry.
